Ventilation systems often use many different types of air valves. In this article, Sao Viet Air Duct will introduce to you the 5 main types of air valves that are most commonly used today.
1. VCD air valve
VCD – Volume Control Damper – is a valve that regulates the air flow on the ventilation pipe. VCD valve helps you adjust the air flow by changing the cross-section passing through the valve.
You can change and adjust the angle of the valve blades manually. VCD air flow control valves come in round and rectangular shapes, commonly used for WC exhaust systems and fresh air supply systems.
2. OBD air valve
OBD valve – Opposite Blade Volume Damper – is a valve that adjusts the air flow on the air vent. The function of this valve is the same as the VCD valve, but the installation location is different. The VCD valve will be installed on the air duct, while the OBD valve will be installed directly on the air vent.
OBD valves are usually installed on the air vents of return air ducts, exhaust pipes and on air vents located in air ducts.
3. FD air valve
FD valve – Fire Damper – is one of the most important valve models in the ventilation system. Its main function is to extinguish and block fire – a must-have standard for any ventilation system. FD air damper operates based on the overheating of the element placed on the valve. When the temperature of the air damper is above 70 degrees, this element will automatically melt, causing the air damper to completely close, preventing smoke and fire from passing through.
FD fire dampers are often installed on air ducts in areas such as transitions from one space to another, from one fire zone to another, or in duct locations through walls, fire partitions, etc.
4. MSFD air valve
MSFD valve – Motorized Smoke Fire Damper – is a type of air valve improved from FD valve. This valve model will automatically block fire by motor. In terms of operating principle, MSFD valve will be more complicated than FD valve, requiring an actuator motor and accompanying valve control cabinet. However, its operation is very precise and immediate, so it has a higher safety level than FD air valve.
This is also a very popular type of air valve when designing ventilation systems. All thanks to its high protection against both heat and smoke in the event of a fire.
5. NRD air valve
NRD valve – Non Return Damper – is a type of one-way air valve. Although it has a design quite similar to the VCD valve, this type of air valve only allows air flow in one fixed direction. When the air flow goes in the opposite direction, the valve will automatically close.
NRD air valves are often used for exhaust systems. Simply because people do not want the smell to return. In addition, NRD valves are also applied in air ducts close to air supply and exhaust louvers, etc.
Although there are many different types of air valves produced today, the 5 types of valves shared by Sao Viet Air Duct above are still the most basic and popular types used when designing ventilation systems for projects in Vietnam.
